It’s the first day of a new month! And it’s not just a normal month – it’s my birthday month! Sunday is my day and you are more than welcome to celebrate me by sending me some Oiselle giftcards, a handheld water bottle of any kind, a box of Hüma Gels or a pair of SKORA Running shoes (or something else awesome and running related). Just kidding! Of course I don’t want you to do that – that’s totally my husbands job!
SO. August, new month and it all starts with me being low on motivation when it comes to my running. Just my luck! But seriously, I WILL snap out of it soon! I know myself well enough to be sure that my passion for running will take over and bring my motivation, joy and inspiration back again. While I’m giving myself a little break (I still run, just not as long and often as I’m “supposed” to, or rather as I’m used to) I decided to set a few simple goals for the month of August – I figured it will help me stay in shape both mentally and physically!
As always when I’m low on motivation/inspiration, my emotions are all over the place and what I found helps me a lot (maybe not as much as running, but still) with this is yoga. I have therefore decided that yoga will happen 4 times/week during August.
My boy have been feeling weak lately, and I think that this contributed to the lack of motivation, so this month I’m all about it. Hopefully it will get me going and keep at it after August too. Coach Jay Johnson’s Myrtl Routine is definitely going to be (re)incorporated into my weekly routine. I’ll focus on hips, abs, back and glutes to build a more balanced and strong body. Back in March I semi seriously said that I was going to give myself the gift of visible abs for my birthday, that didn’t happen, but it doesn’t stop me from working towards it from now on.
3. Read & Write
I just received Scott Jurek’s book Eat and Run from an online running friend (how awesome is it that Brandon from Forks to Feet gave me this to boost my motivation?!) and I look forward to dig in to it and get inspired. I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while, so I’m pretty darn stoked! I also decided to keep a journal for the month to keep track on my body and mind. Training and food logs and random ramblings is something I usually don’t put into words by pen and paper, so I figured I’d give it a go! Why not, right?!
Just run. No pressure, no nothing. Just run for the love of it.
5. Get out!
I’m pretty isolated here in our house nowadays. Husband is working a lot and I don’t have a drivers licence, car or a bike to be able to actually go somewhere during the days he’s gone. Being alone with lots of time to kill is usually something I enjoy, but lately I’ve been craving getting out. I know I can’t do much about the transportation part, but I’m pushing myself to at least go for a walk in the area on days when I’m not running.
That’s it. Nothing crazy for sure, but some things for me to focus on while slowly getting back to normal after these last slow and kind of rough weeks.
